Friend

Dear Friend,

  • I’m so grateful to have met you.
  • You’re an amazing human being and I’m happy to have you in my life.
  • I don’t think it would be the same without you.
  • You’re cool, fun and so fucking weird but I love that about you.
  • I appreciate you so very much and our friendship even more.
  • You always find a way to make me smile, even when you’re the one having a bad day.
  • You’ve shared a lot of cool things with me.
  • Remember when… *insert something dumb here*
  • Thank you for all your support over the years.
  • And I’ll always have your back, even when I don’t want to.
  • You’re pun-ey and I love it.
  • You and I act like small children.
  • We often share a brain.
  • There’s a reason we’re two halves of a whole idiot.
  • What I’m trying to say is: “You’re pretty fucking awesome!”

Sincerely,
Thank you

Gaming is Awesome

Ten Reasons Why You Should Start Playing Video Games

  1. It’s therapeutic. You get to let your frustrations and anger out at in-game issues.
  2. It’s okay to shoot things in the face online, but not in real-life.
  3. Gaming is like escaping into a new world.
  4. It’s an inclusive space. Whether you like first-person shooter, adventure, builder, or choose your own path games, there’s something for everyone.
  5. It’s a hobby and sometimes people do it for a living.
  6. You get to hang out with friends while playing – and you also get to meet some pretty cool people in-game.
  7. The graphics are beautiful and depending on the game, accurately represent real-life.
  8. You can explore themes, ideas, sexualities, situations, and consequences in a safe and controlled environment.
  9. Some of the soundtracks are AMAZING!
  10. Games are a wonderful tool for learning. It can honestly teach you real world skills like map reading, problem solving, hand-eye coordination, etc…

Take Me Back

Something I miss

I have all the feels about his particular post.

Three years ago (2015) I spent most of my summer in Lebanon visiting family and friends. It still makes me smile when I mention my visit to anyone. I consider it to be the trip of a life time and I can’t wait to go back.

One of my fondest memories from my visit is the time when my cousins and I drove across the country to walk through the Cedars of Lebanon.

As I close my eyes, I can feel the cool, crisp air. The memory of climbing over large rocks and tree roots as I walk down the winding path, brings me joy. The patches of  sun beating down on my shoulders and the warmth it brings my body is exhilarating. I can reach out and touch the leaves between my fingers; their texture is soft yet rough. I am at ease with the people I am with.

I miss:

Family and friends.
The late nights sharing drinks and anecdotes.
The hot days of Beirut.
The family lunches and dinners.
Being called ‘my cousin from Canada’.
Hiking in the mountains.
Swimming in the ocean.
Driving down winding roads to new adventures.
Being teased about my Arabic pronunciation.
Teasing them about their English.
Playing bubble soccer.
Sitting on the beach.
The promises made and kept.
Bar hoping and day drinking.
Dancing in the car.
The shenanigans, pranks, and silly stunts.
The paparazzi.
The way my aunt and mom used to dance when they were happy.
My uncle’s dad jokes.
‘Kiss me again’ as a recurring curse.
… so, so much more.

But mostly, I miss the experience, and the cherished the memories.

Habits

Worst Habits (in no particular order)

We all have ’em right?

  1. This is in list form because I’m lazy (so I guess that’s habit number one).
  2. I run on ‘Arab time’ (If you’re unfamiliar, it means I’m often but not always late).
  3. I never get enough sleep (or rather, it’s rare when I do).
  4. I spend way too much time looking at a screen (I’m surprised I don’t need glasses).
  5. Poor as fuck posture (I sit on my ass all day hunched over my laptop).
  6. I don’t workout as much as I would like to.
  7. I don’t deal well with stress.
  8. I drink too much caffeinated stuff in general (if that’s a thing) – coffee and tea mostly.
  9. I have a tendency to skip breakfast.
  10. Emotional Eating (boredom).
  11. PROCRASTINATION!
  12. I get distracted easily (by the internet) and end up wasting time rather than getting things I need to get done, done (like posting this for example instead of you know, going to bed).
  13. I’m terrible at removing distractions/time-wasters.
  14. Not having a work routine.
  15. I’m overloaded with opinions/information (so I tend to lose track of ideas quickly).
  16. I’m indecisive.
  17. I ‘wait’  for the ‘right’ time to work (Inspiration or whatever).
  18. Online shopping (need I say more?).
  19. When I’m nervous I twirl/pull my hair, pick at my skin, or fidget with whatever item I am holding.
  20. I tend to unintentionally space out sometimes.
  21. Swearing in public (but who doesn’t these days?).
  22. Daydreaming.

What are some of your worst habits?

My Favorite Things

What always makes me feel better?

Well isn’t that a loaded question. Sort of – Not really. There are a lot of things that make me feel better; it depends on the situation and what I feel like doing at the time. For instance, sometimes I clean to de-stress so that makes me feel better. Doing my makeup is therapeutic, so is drawing and painting and writing, and jogging. Sometimes I take naps, just cause. These are just a few of my favorite things.

*Insert Appropriate Sound of Music Reference Here*

I had to. #sorrynotsorry

Just so you know, I hummed the tune of this song the entire time I was editing these lyrics.  Mind you, The Sound of Music is also one of my favorite movies…
So here you are: mostly re-written lyrics (it was a lot harder than I thought it would be).

Chocolate on cheesecake
And Makeup and brushes
Bright colored dresses and warm tender touches
Soaring up high like a bird with wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Good shows on Netflix and hiking on mountains
Perfume and glitter
And wishes in fountains
Books on the shelves and playing on swings
These are a few of my favorite things

Swimming in oceans on hot summer days
Hunting for treasure and driving down highways
Indulging in food and glamorous rings
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When a bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

Chocolate on cheesecake and makeup and brushes
Bright colored dresses and warm tender touches
Soaring up high like a bird with wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Good shows on Netflix and hiking on mountains
Perfume and glitter and wishes in fountains
Books on the shelves and playing on swings
These are a few of my favorite things

Swimming in oceans on hot summer days
Hunting for treasure and driving down highways
Indulging in food and glamorous rings
These are a few of my favorite things

New Years Resolution [Reposted]

This ‘New Years Resolutions’ is just a ton of crap. Every year I make this unrealistic list of resolutions I expect myself to keep but never do. This year is different. This year, like last year, I’m not making resolutions that need to be completed in 365 days only to give up half way through. Instead, I’m making a list of things I want to get done in my life.

I want to update this list each year and  I want to add new ideas and remove the ones that I’ve completed.

Here it is:

  1. Go on More than one Road Trip
  2. Bungee Jumping
  3. Build a Blanket Fort
  4. Have a Picnic
  5. Do more yoga
  6. Wake up/go to Bed early.
  7. Go on a Hot Air Balloon Ride
  8. Learn to play poker like a champ
  9. Swim in a Pool at night filled with glow sticks
  10. Go ‘ghost hunting’ with friends
  11. Do something out of your comfort zone
  12. Ride a bike across the city
  13. Go hiking
  14. Go to a bonfire/build one
  15. Party in a forest
  16. Travel somewhere new
  17. Travel alone
  18. Try something new
  19. Write more
  20. Read more
  21. Learn something new and be good at it.
  22. Get a tattoo  (I did it!)
  23. Get my eyebrow/tongue pierced
  24. Try foods from different cuisines
  25. Geek out  (Some of my friends have gotten me into gaming)
  26. Watch classic movies
  27. Do more feminist-y things
  28. Hang out with the besties regularly
  29. Dye some of my hair an unnatural color
  30. Continue being the epic bad-ass Queen that I am.
